Looks familiar ???

A year ago, about the same time I made this cake for a lovely 6 year old girl, this year she wanted the same cake but bigger and higher. Can you imagine how her 10th birthday cake will look like ... I can’t wait for the challenge :-)

Again, a big thank you to my good good friend Zohar who came to take these pictures and managed to capture them although very difficult light conditions. Thank you Zohar xxx

Look at these amazing collages she made for me-

Cupcake Mania...

So cup cakes are a big hit now. They come in all sizes and shapes; have a look at a few I made this week. I loved making then and enjoyed the thought of each child getting his own perfect little "cake".

It's the first time I have a good professional picture of my little creations thanks to my good good friend Zohar that came early morning before the cupcakes were collected (it was a sad goodbye but I'm ok now :-) and took so many pictures and edited them for me, so have a look…

LIFE IS SIMPLE...

My best ideas about cooking, flavours, cake decorating ideas etc. comes from my children and from the children I teach.
I wrote about it before on one of my posts, that before children become adults like us... they have unbelievable imagination, their honesty is immaculate - the "clean" way they see things always surprises me.
Sometimes I get so confused with designs for my cakes, and then my daughter comes along and gives the best advice ever!! And I think “how come I didn’t think of that"?!?!?

Why am I telling you all that? because in the last few weeks I have been giving cooking and cake decorating classes for small groups of children. We decorated cakes, baked pastries and bread, made pasta with a pasta machine, made and baked pizza from scratch etc. and it has been great!

the kids comes to these classes so excited but without any hesitations, you might think they expect so much and then the little things is what really makes them happy...
We should all learn from them...
Life is simple- no need to complicate it...

HELLO KITTY AND JIMBO THE CLOWN CAKES

This time I’m not going to talk about the cake but about the reaction of the girls seeing the cakes for the first time...
I was helping their dad to put the cakes in the car...the 2 years old saw the "Jimbo the clown" cake and started screaming like she has just witnessed a miracle...I was over the moon!!
The 4 years old was pointing at the "Hello Kitty" cake and shouted "Kitty...Kitty...Kitty" as if she has just met a long lost friend...that was so funny...

That’s what I love about my job- the reward is immediate!

ZEBRA CAKE

I love it when children challenge me with ideas for new cakes.
I find that children have the most amazing imagination and they see things in such a different way than we do; they see the little details and have the ability to see something and appreciate its full beauty (shame they grow up and become predictable adults like us…)
Any way, in my wildest dreams I didn’t think I would ever do a Zebra cake!
But...along came Amy and she knew exactly what she wants...a Zebra cake.
So here it is...

Have a great sunny day!

BYE BYE DUMMY

At some point any toddler has to say goodbye to something precious as they grow up; the milk bottle, favourite blanket (blanky as my daughters call it), and the one and only, the thing that whoever invented it should get the peace NOBEL prize, the thing that restore quiet to any household
... The dummy!

This cake is for a very brave girl that for her 4th birthday decided to say goodbye to the dummy by asking me to make a "BYE BYE DUMMY” birthday cake.

Well done sweetie! You can do it!

So here it is:

MY CONTRIBUTION TO THE FOOTBALL WORLD CUP 2010

Football is not really my thing! Sorry, and I don’t mean to offend anyone but I can’t find any pleasure of 90 min (at least...) of men (some of them are very good looking indeed...) running after a ball and then...on top of it all the winner is being chosen by penalties!!! What’s the point?
A good friend of mine told me “we play football for 90 min and then Germany wins..."- I think that this sums up this world cup.

But... a lovely young boy (6 years old to be precise) is a huge football fan and for his birthday he asked me to make a cake of an official "Adidas Jabulani FIFA world cup football 2010”.
So here it is, and I think that for a non football fan like me that’s a BIG contribution to the football world cup spirit!

LUCIE'S CONFIRMATION FLOWER CAKE

I made this cake for a lovely, very talented and bubbly 13 years old girl.

she asked for something cute and summery, classy and elegant yet not to wedding like cake...

This is what I came up with and I am very happy with the result, I hope you like it as well...

In close up...

And another one...

I loved every minute of making this cake (and a lot of "minutes" went into this cake...)

I love my job!

Thursday 27 May 2010

I know I haven’t been here for a while, and no good excuses are to be found besides the fact that between 3 children (well 4...), work and daily chores, sometimes it’s a bit difficult to stay on top of things.

So...what have I been doing lately?
some really cool cooking courses: Passover cooking demo with some really easy to make and impressive recipes (focaccia bread for example...),

"Milky way" demo that was all about dairy cooking followed by 2 short amazing talks; one about coffee by a coffee expert and another about table settings by an interior designer...great evenings with good food and great atmosphere.

In between, I made some cakes, gave cake decorating courses, beginners and advanced, kids cooking classes etc.

Here are some pictures of the stuff I have been doing lately (sorry for the poor quality of the pictures)

A fairy cake;

This is a dinosaur cake I made recently -
I call it "the friendly dinosaur", cute, ha?

And a closer look..

A bowling cake-

And a closer look...

and some pictures from the "Milky Way" demo;

Here I'm making some vegi pie with grilled veg, goats cheese, sun dried tomatoes etc...YUMMY!

And this is the AMAZING table that was set by Maya the interior designer that gave a small clever talk about table setting.

That's it for now folks....
